Garden State Radio News - A 21st Century News Service
For New Jersey Broadcasters

History of Garden State Radio
News Services

In the 1970s, the Associated Press offered New Jersey broadcast wire subscribers an audio service called "Garden State Audio." AP editor Ron Landry sat in a sparsely furnished cubbyhole in the former linotype department on the fourth floor of the Asbury Park Press Building at Press Plaza in Asbury Park with two telephones, an old Ampex reel-to-reel tape recorder, and a tape cartridge machine.

Every day, Landry produced 10-15 minutes of audio from newsmakers and contributing correspondents around New Jersey that subscribers could "download" over a telephone patch.

Things are different today. We have the Internet.

Radio News Actualities and News Wrappers

We have extensive experience in preparing radio news actualities, interviews and other reports.

We contribute regular news reports to NowPublic.com and AllVoices.com, two newly emerging citizen journalism websites. We maintain professional memberships in the Online News Association, the Radio and Television Digital News Association (formerly Radio and Television News Directors Association), the National Press Photographers Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Professional Photographers of America.

Using digital audio technologies, we can deliver a client's messages to broadcast outlets in a cost-effective way. We not only produce podcast programs for our clients, but also help them alert potential listeners that a new podcast program is available by handling the RSS distribution technology that makes podcasts visible to listeners on the Web and in the Apple iTunes Music store.

Radio stations can subscribe to our broadcast service and receive weekly feeds of news wrapper reports, actualities, and custom content.

Here are examples of our radio news wrapper reports:

RADIO NEWS WRAPPER REPORT: South Jersey Rabbi, a Kidney Transplant Survivor, Joins Zoo Walk to Raise Money for Kidney Foundation on Sunday

South Jersey Rabbi Andy Bossov, senior rabbi at Temple Adath Emanuel in Mt. Laurel, Burlington County, will join thousands of other walkers for the National Kidney Foundation’s Zoo Walk this Sunday at the Philadelphia Zoo.

Bossov, a Mt. Laurel resident, made international headlines two and a half years ago, when he received a live kidney donation from Methodist minister Karen Onesti, who offered to donate her kidney when she learned at a gathering of local clergy that Bossov needed one.

In this news wrapper with correspondent Steve Lubetkin (loo BEHT kin), Bossov (BAH sawv) talks about the experience and describes the goals of the Zoo Walk.

January 2009

Israel's Consulate General in New York conducted a "citizens' press conference" using the microblogging/messaging website Twitter.com on December 30. Correspondent Steve Lubetkin interviewed David Saranga, Consul for Media and Public Affairs at the Israeli Consulate, who organized the Twitter dialogue, for the CompuSchmooze podcast, available at www.compuschmooze.com.

In this wrapper report, Saranga explains how Israeli diplomats hope to continue the open dialogue on Twitter after the crisis in Gaza subsides.

ANNOUNCER INTRO: The Israel Consulate is using some new media technology to get its message out about its actions in Gaza over the past week. Steve Lubetkin (loo BEHT kihn) has that story.
